New in 2014 for the Montmorency Forest’s 50th Anniversary
January 9, 2014
Backcountry skiing and other gliding sports at Mount Edgar-Porter with snowbus shuttle
Guided initiation outings and rental at the skishoeing centre
The winter season is in full swing at the Montmorency Forest, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2014; the largest education and academic research forest in the world, managed by Laval University. For the occasion, we recommend taking an off-trail, backcountry trip to one of the Montmorency Forest’s 4 summits of nearly 1000 meters enjoying the gliding sports of your choice. The logging cuts and 6 meters of powder snow have meticulously created a 35 hectares ski area on Mount Edgar-Porter with an altitude of 970 meters. This mountain is named in honour of one of the Montmorency Forest’s founders and the originator of the term ‘foresterie’ which means forestry in french. For this supervised outing, transport to the site is provided by a Bombardier B12 snowmobile (snowbus).
A new sport made its debut last season: skishoeing! This sport, offering you a balance between the pleasure of snowshoeing and the satisfaction of skiing downhill, is now available in three formulas at the Montmorency Forest. A perfect hybrid between the two disciplines, skishoeing lets you climb up trails, enjoying the snowy forest, and then hurtle down perfectly through the glades. The Forest’s team is committed to develop a center of more than 100 hectares of forest dedicated to skishoeing and other gliding winter sports (snowboarding, telemark or downhill skiing).
Accessible to all, skishoeing is an experience for families, groups or individuals and available in three formulas:
• Rental equipment for independent practice for a half day or full day.
• Guided skishoeing outings (6 hours of activity): see technical specifications
o Guided initiation outings take place in our 100 hectares center dedicated to skishoeing and other gliding sports. (adults and children 13 years and older)
• Backcountry outings to Mount Edgar-Porter by snowbus for skishoeing and other gliding sports (6 hours of activity): see technical specifications
o The off-trail backcountry excursion is with the gliding sports of your choice (skishoeing, snowboarding, telemark or alpine skiing). This package is ideal for active adults who want to enjoy the 6 meters of powder and independently explore this ski area’s fields and cleared corridors in the heart of the Laurentians, 50 minutes from Quebec City.
o We will transport you by Bombardier B12 snowmobile. The supervised outing occurs in an area of 35 hectares dedicated exclusively to winter gliding sports.
