Official Unveiling of the Hall of Influence at the Québec City Convention Centre

February 4, 2011

58 people generate $150 million in economic impact

Québec City, January 27, 2011 – In the presence of a hundred notable figures from across the Québec City area, the chief executive officer of Société du Centre des congrès de Québec, P.-Michel Bouchard, unveiled the Hall of Influence. This animated work of art celebrates influential individuals who have helped create significant economic impact for Québec City and enhance its international profile.

“Since 1996, many men and women have taken it upon themselves to get involved, investing their time and energy to seek out major conventions. We have decided to pay homage to these influential individuals and immortalize them through a publicly accessible animated work of art, which we have christened the Hall of Influence,” explained Mr. Bouchard.

“Today we are recognizing the contribution of 58 decision makers and researchers. Thanks to them, 57 international conventions, each attended by 600 participants or more, have been booked at the Québec City Convention Centre since 1996. These conventions alone have generated over $150 million in economic impact, or close to $2.6 million per event.”

Since the Québec City Convention Centre opened its doors, the events held here (shows, meetings, banquets, conventions) have injected a total of $1.3 billion into the local economy, one billion of which is specifically attributable to conventions, all markets combined. The convention category also represents nearly 70% of the Centre’s total revenues and the economic impact it generates. New money generated by events since 1996 totals $780 million. As for the Centre’s hotel partners, they have benefited with over two million room nights.

The future looks bright. Confirmed events currently on the Centre’s books for the coming years are expected to generate $123 million in economic impact.

“Without the contribution of these influential individuals, we would not have achieved such impressive results. Over time others will follow their example and join them in this hall of influence, a reflection of Québec City’s success as an internationally renowned convention destination,” concluded the Québec City Convention Centre CEO.
